A Food Truck...Just What The Doctor Ordered!!!

This morning ten of us connected with the deep met with a much larger team of people at an area thrift store (Hope's Outlet) to help unload and distribute food to needy people in our community.  We also had small opportunities to interact with people waiting in the line and help them carry food to their cars.

As you think about these things in and of themselves; unloading, lifting, carrying, interacting with total strangers...they may sound like death to you, or at least work.  For me this experience was like a deep breath of fresh air or a long drink of cold water.

In the midst of all the details we have been living with that are part of launching a weekly gathering it is easy to be consumed.  We have thought and said all along that while we wanted to have a great weekly experience, that our church would be defined more by the ways we are present and interact with our community and the ways we embrace diversity.  No matter how great or inspiring a church service may be what good is it if people leave and have nothing to eat or feed their children???

This morning was not just about people's hungry bellies but my soul as well!  I never want to become a pastor or a church that only tells people about Jesus.  Today was about being Jesus in one of the easiest and most important ways possible!
